Gary became a member of the Oregon State Bar in 1993 and the Washington State Bar in 1996. He was admitted to practice in the Federal or U.S. District Court of Oregon and the Federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in 1994. Gary has tried cases in both the State and Federal courts of Oregon and State courts of Washington. He has also argued cases before the Oregon State Court of Appeals.
Gary graduated from the University of Washington in 1987 with a B.S. in Psychology, a minor in mathematics and a secondary teaching certificate. He taught school in Kent, Washington before attending Northwestern School of Law where he received his J.D. in 1993.
His professional associations include membership in the American Inns of Court since 1994, and the Oregon Association of Defense Counsel since 1996. He has also been a member of the Redmond Kiwanis Club since 1999. The Kiwanis club organizes and runs the annual Deschutes County Livestock auction.
Born and raised in Kodiak, Alaska, Gary fished for salmon, halibut and herring commercially for ten years while growing up. In his spare time, Gary enjoys skiing, running, biking, triathlons and playing in a volleyball league. He also raises cattle and grows hay on his ranch.
